6U Book Week

Date: 29th Jan 2017 @ 5:11pm

We started off this week reading the Enormous Crocodile. Shortly afterwards we received the news via a Newsround report that the crocodile had escaped capture in the Macclesfield area.

In the hope of finding out more information to help us write a newspaper report on the incident we interviewed witnesses to his crimes: Trunky (the elephant), Roly-Poly (the bird), (Muggle-Wump the monkey) and Humpy Rumpy (the hippo).

We had a visit and workshop with Richard Knight. The author of Winter’s Shadow, Finn, the Court Painter’s Apprentice and more. He taught use some great techniques for tension writing using video clips from Monsters Inc and Great Expectations.

We also had a visit from one of 6Us aunties who is an illustrator. Becky brought some of her amazing work to show us and talked about how to start out in this career. She also taught us how to create flipbooks so that we could create some of our own simple animations.

One of the highlights of the week was ‘Camp Marlborough’ where we came back to school - once it had gone dark – in our wellies and warm clothes for our teachers to read stories around a campfire. We ate toasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate to help us keep nice and warm.

To finish the fantastic week, we teamed up with 2W to create Enormous Crocodile puppet shows. Each group (of two Year 6s and two Year 2s) were given a section of the story and they had to create the scenery, puppets, and script for their part. We then put them all together to make one full show.
