Our theme for this half term is 'The World and Us'

The children will be learning about the world in Geography and our place in it.  In Science we will be looking at plants. We will be learning about the functions of different parts of flowing plants and the requirements of plants for life and growth. We will be investigating the way in which water is transported within plants and exploring the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, see formation and seed dispersal.  Our Art will focus on the skill of sculpture and how these can enhance our environment. We will be exploring lots of sculpting techniques.

English

In English we will be focusing on the book- .

The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle and The Jolly Rogers and the Ghostly Galleon.

Through this book we will learn continue to learn how to write noun phrases, adverbial phrases and subordinate clauses to enhance our sentence writing.

We will learn how to perfect our paragraph, learning how to compose a good paragraph and to make our paragraphs flow.

In addition we will be using the animation ‘The Lighthouse’ to develop the skills mentioned above.

We will continue to learn spellings for year 3 and ensure our spelling of words becomes more accurate.

Mathematics

Times tables:

As children are required to know their multiplication tables up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4, a key area of focus is to develop our multiplication tables knowledge and become times table superstars! Strong multiplication table knowledge is crucial in many areas of maths and children should be able to recall these quickly and confidently. On top of your child's weekly mathematics homework, children should spend some time each week practising their times tables. Please enjoy exploring the times table activities below:
