Welcome to 3E

3E is taught by Mr Etherington and Mrs Davis, our HLTA, teaches on a Monday afternoon.

Please use our class page to find out about what we are learning and doing during the year.  More detailed information about the class theme can be found by opening the 'Curriculum Plan' which can be found in 'Files to download' lower down the class homepage.

Our theme for this half term is 'The Ancient Egyptians'.

In History, we will be learning all about life in Ancient Egypt, including all about The Egyptian Gods, Pharaohs, Pyramids, King Tutankhamun and much more. Our theme will link with a number of other subjects across the curriculum.  In Science,  we will be investigating the skeleton and exploring the process of mummification. In Art we will be researching, designing and creating our own press prints to create our name in hieroglyphics.

English

We will continue with the theme of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ to help the children with their transition to year 3 as it is familiar to them.

Through this book we will learn what a good sentence needs. The children will revise their knowledge of nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.  They will learn the types of sentences such as statements and questions, commands and exclamations. The children will learn to write to describe, write instructions and recounts. They will also learn how to plan for writing, draft and redraft to make improvements.

In year 3 we will have a strong focus on handwriting and spelling.  A list of year 3 words that the children need to learn to spell can be found at the bottom of the page in 'Files to download'.

Mathematics

In maths the children will develop their ability and knowledge in the following concepts.  Through a mastery style of teaching the children will develop their fluency in these areas as well as an ability to reason and problem solve using this knowledge.

The children will learn:

  • To count in 1's, 50's and 100's to 1000.
  • To know the value of each digit in a three digit number.
  • To partition a 3 digit number into hundreds, tens and ones.
  • To order 3 digit numbers.
  • To compare 3 digit numbers using language of smaller and greater.
  • To add or subtract 1, 10 or 100 from a given number.

Times tables:

As children are required to know their multiplication tables up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4, a key area of focus is to develop our multiplication tables knowledge and become times table superstars! Strong multiplication table knowledge is crucial in many areas of maths and children should be able to recall these quickly and confidently. On top of your child's weekly mathematics homework, children should spend some time each week practising their times tables. Please enjoy exploring the times table activities below:
