Class 4H 2019 - 2020

Miss Higham

Year 4 Teacher

Miss Davis

Welcome to 4H

4H is taught by Miss Higham and Miss Davis, our HLTA, takes the class on Tuesday afternoons.

In Year 4, our theme for the Autumn Term is 'Wild Worlds’. Our lessons will be cross-curricular which means that units of English, geography, computing, DT and art will be linked together to create a broader experience. Planned activities include practical lessons where we will: be learning all about how rivers are formed – including a trip to the local stream – become boat builders, make our own ‘volcanoes’, learn all about Mount Vesuvius and much, much more. It would be fantastic if you could encourage your child to collect material from home - or from the library - to support this.

Please use our website to find out all about what we will be learning throughout this year, keep up-to-date with upcoming events, find useful documentation linked to our curriculum (see file downloads at the end of this page) and much more. You can also view our gallery and Facebook page, to see just how much fun we have been having whilst learning.

Times tables:

As children are required to know their multiplication tables up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4, a key area of focus is to develop our multiplication tables knowledge and become times table superstars! Strong multiplication table knowledge is crucial in many areas of maths and children should be able to recall these quickly and confidently. On top of your child's weekly mathematics homework, children should spend some time each week practising their times tables. Please enjoy exploring the times table activities below: - every child has an individual login for Times Tables Rock Stars.

Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practice for 5-11 year olds

About Hit the Button. Hit the Button is an interactive maths game with quick fire questions on number bonds, times tables, doubling and halving, multiples, division ...

Have you found some other fun times table activities? Come and let us know - 4H would love to hear about them.

Please click on the link below and spend some time exploring the range of fun and exciting spelling, punctuation and grammar activities available:

It would be really beneficial for the children to read at least 5 times a week.  Even though most children are able to read independently in Year 4, it would be great if they could read with an adult a couple of times a week.  To develop their higher level comprehension skills, please use some of the questions suggested in the documents to download. The children still love being read to, so please continue to read to them too!  It's a great way of extending their vocabulary and providing them with their own ideas for story writing.

Along with regular reading and learning times tables, the children will have spellings to learn and homework will be set weekly to consolidate their understanding of key skills in English and Maths.

The children also have access to Times Tables Rockstars which is a website that will help to develop their multiplication and division knowledge. Please check your child's Maths homework book for their individual login.

Thank you so much for your support in this area.
