Welcome to 4H

Friday 3rd April

‘Tears fall for a reason. They are your strength not your weakness.’

Happy last day of term! We made it in perhaps the most unusual fashion ever but we got there. We really think your parents are heroes for taking on the challenge of home learning and you are all amazing for being so strong and taking it in your stride.

Hopefully your parents received an email yesterday (if not, please check your junk), about a little Lockdown Challenge I have set up that will hopefully be lots of fun.

This morning:

Again this morning, we would like you to spend some time finishing off the tasks in your pack, whichever these maybe.

Afternoon activities for this week:

This week, we would like you to work through the tasks from the topic sheet that you haven’t yet completed. This was the sheet with: Design Your Own Wildlife Garden, Make a Viking House/Longship, Become an Illustrator and Design a New Creature.

We found this little video and it is a great one to watch as a little introduction to the Design a New Creature task. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVNR0cPZWQ0

If you like, ask an adult to email some pictures of your creations over; we would love to see some.

Fun activity ideas for today:

Have you seen THE NEW Harry Potter at Home website (as you know, Miss Upton and I do like our Harry Potter!)? Even if you are not a fan, there are lots of activities and puzzles that you might enjoy. If you love the books, there is enough to keep you occupied for most of Lockdown we would imagine.

Chester Zoo will.be going live on Facebook throughout the day too.

Love maths? Missing your daily math lesson? We can assure you that the teachers really are missing teaching them to you but why not tune into these fantastic home learning lessons below with Gareth Metcalfe. Gareth is a Primary Maths consultant and has recorded some online problem solving session which will keep your maths brains occupied for hours. Please do record these in your scrapbooks so we can see how hard you have been working.

Useful Websites

Oxford Owl - read books or listen to audio books. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ logins are on the letter emailed home or to the right of your screen.

Times tables:

As children are required to know their multiplication tables up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4, a key area of focus is to develop our multiplication tables knowledge and become times table superstars! Strong multiplication table knowledge is crucial in many areas of maths and children should be able to recall these quickly and confidently. On top of your child's weekly mathematics homework, children should spend some time each week practising their times tables. Please enjoy exploring the times table activities below:

https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth - every child has an individual login for Times Tables Rock Stars.

Homework

It would be really beneficial for the children to read at least 5 times a week.  Even though most children are able to read independently in Year 4, it would be great if they could read with an adult a couple of times a week.  To develop their higher level comprehension skills, please use some of the questions suggested in the documents to download. The children still love being read to, so please continue to read to them too!  It's a great way of extending their vocabulary and providing them with their own ideas for story writing.

Along with regular reading and learning times tables, the children will have spellings to learn and homework will be set weekly to consolidate their understanding of key skills in English and Maths.

The children also have access to Times Tables Rockstars which is a website that will help to develop their multiplication and division knowledge. Please check your child's Maths homework book for their individual login.
