This Summer Term our topic is....

The Americas

Within this theme, we will be exploring the life and achievements of ancient America.  We will be specifically looking at the life of The Aztecs and The Mayans and their huge influence.  In English, we will be reading a range of information books and writing information texts of our own.  We will also be thinking about what life was like for The Mayans and The Aztecs and how we found out about their lives through artefacts.  In Geography, we will be looking at the climate and terrain of America and how this affected the country in terms of trade and farming.  Our lessons will be cross-curricular which means that units of English, History, Geography, Art and Design will be linked together to create a more broad experience.

The children will be set their homework every Thursday.   They will receive a Maths and English activity as well as spellings.   The homework is due in the following Monday.   Our weekly spelling test is on a Tuesday.  The childrens' results will be in their reading diaries.  We ask that the children read 3-4 times a week or more.   Your child also has a reading journal with lots of suggested fun activities that can be linked to their reading book.   Ask your child to show to their teacher whenever they have completed an activity.  We would love to see!

Additional Information

It is very important that children practice their times tables regularly. Children are expected to know their times tables to 12x12 by the end of Year 4 and much of the work that we do in maths lessons requires quick and accurate times tables recall. On top of your child's weekly mathematics homework, children should spend some time each week practising their times tables. Please enjoy exploring the times tables activities below:
