Welcome to Foundation Stage Group 2

On this page you will find out about what we have been learning, finding out and doing.

Reception is a very important year at school and within the year we aim to provide the children with the tools that they need to ensure they have a successful learning journey at Marlborough. The children learn the values that are important to us at both Marlborough and in the wider community, to take responsiblity for their actions, to be tolerant and understanding as well as how to enjoy their learning and work in harmony with others.

We hope you enjoy discovering what life is like at Marlborough. As ever if you have any questions please feel free to come in and chat to us after school.

The teachers in FSHE are, Mrs Hughes and Miss Egginton.  Mrs Hughes  teaches on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Miss Egginton teaches on a Thursday and Friday. Mrs Warburton is the teaching assistant for FSHE and is in all week and Mrs Wilde works as a HLTA within the class on alternate Wednesday mornings.

Autumn Term 2 - Festivals and Light and Dark

We have loved exploring fireworks, creating paintings, thinking about safety and learning about Guy Fawkes. We made poppies for Remembrance day and brought Diwali to life with a visit from one of our families who provided us with authentic homemade snacks that would be eaten during Diwali and Mehndi patterns on our hands. We are looking forward to a visit from the Feathery Folk, Sarah, Percy and Bill the owl's who will be helping us explore nocturnal animals and the story the Owl Babies.

During the second half of Autum Term we will continue to work on Communication & Language, listening to each other, turn taking and following more complicated instructions. We are sending home our marvellous me box to encourage the children to speak to the whole class and share items that are special and familiar to them. We will be encouraging our children to be good listeners and begin to ask relevant questions. Phonics and correct letter formation remains a high focus for us. We are continuing to count accurately and talk about amounts that are more, less or the same.

Please see the 'Curriculum Plan' and 'What To Expect When' files to get a clear picture of the types of skills we will be developing and exploring as the year goes on.

We will also add photographs to our gallery pages to do keep checking to see what fantastic fun and amazing learning has taken place.

During the afternoon each day we have a fruit or vegetable snack, this is a government initiative where children in the infants have a free piece of fruit or vegatable. We call this session "snack and chat" This time provides a lovely opportunity for the children to sit with their peers and reflect upon the day and enjoy a healthy snack.

Each day children require:

A small healthy snack for morning break only.

Reading books and diaries.

A coat  (even when its not raining as we often go to the woods where it is colder)

A pair of wellies (to be left in school)

A spare set of clothes incase of an accident.
